Adding / Removing VPN Clients

What is VPN?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) adds security and anonymity to users when they connect to web-based services and sites. A VPN hides the user’s actual public IP address and “tunnels” traffic between the user’s device and the remote server.

Meter uses the Wirguard VPN to create a secure connection between your device and your network.

Who can use this feature

• Meter Network Admins

Meter Network Admins can create VPN configurations to enable other users to securely connect to their network from remote locations. Meter’s VPN is built with Wireguard.

Create a VPN Configuration

1. Log in at dashboard.meter.com
2. On the left-hand menu, click "VPN"
3. Click "Add Client" next to the search bar
4. Enter the email address of the user you’re creating the VPN configuration for and a distinct name for identifying this VPN profile in the dashboard.
5. Download the Wireguard .conf file. The filename will include the user’s name for reference.
6. Click Done
7. Securely share the .conf file with the user along with this guide: How to connect to your Meter Network remotely
8. Your VPN should be good to go!

How to Remove VPN Clients

1. Log in at dashboard.meter.com
2. On the left-hand menu, click "VPN"
3. The list of all VPN clients is shown by default. Clicking “Active” will filter the list to only VPN clients currently connected.
4. Clicking on a VPN client will show its full details in the drawer on the right.
5. Click on the user you would like to remove
6. On the top right side click on the three vertical dots:
   • click on "Remove VPN client"
   • confirm the details of the client and click Remove.
   • type user's name -> Remove
