What is DNS Security?
Meter has partnered with Cloudflare to provide DNS security on Meter Networks. DNS Security involves using the Domain Name System to filter out undesirable content, such as security threats or high bandwidth streaming, that may hinder network performance and security. DNS Security ensures that your Meter Network is tuned to provide optimal performance for whatever outcome your space needs to deliver.
Meter Network admins can create rules for filtering specific domains as well as categories of content. Priority for the rules is applied in the order of allowed domains, then blocked domains, and finally, categories.
Configuring Domain Rules
- In the Meter Dashboard, click DNS Security in the left sidebar
- Click Domains in the top bar
- Click one of the text boxes under Allow or Block
- Type the domain (or several, separated by commas) and hit enter.
The domain(s) will now be allowed or blocked on your Meter Network. To remove a rule, click the delete icon to the right of its name.
Configuring Category Rules
- In the Meter Dashboard, click DNS Security in the left sidebar
- Click Categories in the top bar
- Click Create rule on the right
- Select whether this is a Block or Allow rule
- Select the category to apply the rule to
- Set the priority. Lower numbers are a higher priority and are observed first.
The domain(s) will now be allowed or blocked on your Meter Network. To remove a rule, click its name in the list, click the cog icon, then click Remove rule.
Troubleshooting
Meter leverages Cloudflare Radar for the comprehensive categorization of websites. In order to verify which category a website belongs to:
- In the Meter Dashboard, click DNS Security in the left sidebar
- Click Categories, then Inspect domain
- Type the domain and click Check category
The categories this domain belongs to will be shown, along with any rules you may have set up that affect it. If you have a domain that appears to be miscategorized, please reach out to Meter Support.
