What is a static route?
A static route is a network route that specifies a fixed path for certain traffic. For example, if you have an outside subnet (172.16.22.0/24) that is not defined on the Meter Security appliance, but that traffic needs to be routed to a host on the Meter LAN (10.103.44.51/32), a static route can be used to accomplish this.
Static routing is usually not needed on a Meter network unless there are special circumstances. If you need clarification or would like assistance creating and/or validating a static route, please reach out to Meter Support.
Creating a static route
To create a static route, log into the Dashboard and navigate to Network-wide > Routing > Static routes. Then click ‘Add static route’.
This will reveal the configuration panel -
Enabled - Ensure the toggle is flipped ON to enable the static route.
Name - This will be the display name and name used to reference the route in the Dashboard.
Destination - The destination IP range of traffic that the static route will be applied to.
Gateway - Where the destination traffic will be sent. Here you can use ‘IP address’ or ‘Static mapping’. If ‘IP address’ is used, enter the IP address of the desired gateway. ‘Static mapping’ refers to devices with DHCP reservations made on the Meter Security Appliance. The selected device will be used as the gateway.
Once the route is added, it will populate in the list -
Click on the name of a route to edit or remove the route.
