What does this alert mean?
This alert means that the Meter Security Appliance can see more than one device with the same IP address on the network. Since every IP should be unique, any two devices with the same IP address can run into issues.
The Meter security appliance would not be able to identify if another device is using the same IP address as itself. These IPs can be viewed under Network-wide > VLANs > (click on any VLAN to view).
What do I do if I receive this alert?
By default, Meter networks use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) to assign IP addresses.
Typically, this alert will only fire if a device is using a statically assigned IP address that happens to be an address that was also handed out by the DHCP server.
To identify the devices, log in to the Meter Dashboard and navigate to Insights > Clients and use the search bar to search for the IP address. The clients with identical IPs will populate. IP/network settings on these devices should be investigated to ensure that they are not using a static IP address.
